SmartData Fabric® (SDF) helps clients become EU GDPR compliant, so WhamTech should be compliant too. Therefore we need to tell you that this site uses cookies – small text files that are placed on your machine to help the site provide a better user experience. In general, cookies are used to retain user preferences, store information for things like shopping carts, and provide anonymised tracking data to third party applications like Google Analytics. The EU GDPR says the following about cookies:

(30): “Natural persons may be associated with online identifiers […] such as internet protocol addresses, cookie identifiers or other identifiers […]. This may leave traces which, in particular when combined with unique identifiers and other information received by the servers, may be used to create profiles of the natural persons and identify them.

As a WordPress site, whamtech.com stores cookies on your browser. There are five we can confirm that are stored just by entering the site. Two of these are for advertising purposes. Those will not effect your experience on this site in particular since we do not run ads, but it may change your ad experiences on other sites. The other three are due to Google Analytics. WhamTech uses MonsterInsights to help us track website views, how long people look at our website, and how people came to our site. We do not use these to track you or create a profile on you. We don’t need or want that information.

Cookies are placed in two other ways. The first is commenting on the blog. Our blog is the only section on the website where comments are available. We think that allowing users to comment on our posts is healthy and we love to hear what you have to say. This cookie only caches your information so that if you ever comment on another post, you wont have to enter your information in again – purely for convenience – but if you are uncomfortable with WordPress storing a cookie on your machine then do not comment. If you decide to post anyway, this cookie is generally set to expire a little less than a year after it is placed, and we as a company don’t use any of the information it collects.

The second is through social media. WhamTech uses social media icons to allow users to check us out on various platforms with one simple click. However, the plugins that allow us to place these linked icons use third party cookies from the destination site. This means Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or YouTube cookies may be placed on your browser. We also don’t use any of the information from these cookies.

Cookies usually make your browsing experience better, but you may prefer to disable cookies on this site and on others; and you have every right to do so. The most effective way to do this is to disable cookies in your browser. We suggest consulting the Help section of your browser or taking a look at the About Cookies website which offers guidance for all modern browsers.
